In some churches, when a baptismal candidate is asked "Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the son of the living God? " or a similar question, the response is " I do" or " I believe".

During Easter service in many churches members renew their baptismal promises by their responses of "I do" or "I believe"

A writing prompt on the Monasteries of the Heart website made me stop and consider what I believe. While doing so, I ran across this below:

" I believe. I believe in the sun even when it is still not shining; I believe in love even when not feeling it; and I believe in God, even when God is silent" (written on a wall of a cellar in Cologne, Germany where some Jews hid from the Nazis during WWII

And my own…

I believe in Amazing Grace
That everyone deserves to be loved. No matter if they are ‘beautiful’ or ‘ugly’. Just as I am God’s child, they are God’s children.
That because we are God’s children, we all have some good in us. Some don’t know it or choose to keep what is good hidden. But there is ‘greening’ in each us.

I believe there are precious things no thief can steal from me.
Sunshine, mist over the river, colors of nature, spring rain, the rat tat tat of a woodpecker, God’s love, forgiveness.

I believe that anyone or anything can be a spiritual teacher;
That I learn more from those I teach than they learn from me, If only I listen.
That spending time with children allows me to see with new eyes. To jump in puddles, dance in the rain or under a shower of cherry blossoms, to sing and do like no one is watching, daydream.
That there are lessons to be learned from birds and other creatures, plants and trees. Or from the simple practice of sowing seeds, hanging laundry (prayer flags), ironing clothes.

I believe in Words
That words of kindness are words of blessings, a prayer.
That everyone deserves encouragement, support, forgiveness.
And written words, ideas, guidance and love exchanged.
Writing what is sometimes too difficult to say.

I believe that our bodies are a temple.
That we are Sacred vessels .
That we are a work of beauty.

I believe in Music
as it Leaps for the Divine

I believe in the Music of Silence
praying by candlelight, observing the hours alone or in chapel, silent walks with the sounds and sights of nature. Working/playing alone in my studio.

I believe that we need Beauty in our lives.
The beauty of art and dance, as well as that of a flower in bloom or a brightly colored butterfly or a dazzling snowflake.

I believe in frequent doses of vitamin F.. faith, family, friends, fauna, flora.
My faith, family, friends and interaction with all of nature help me to be a healthy happy person. When it seems very hard to put one foot in front of the other, a dose of vitamin F gives me the will and energy to do so.
