Reading Challenge…
My daily reading includes spiritual/inspirational books, devotionals, news articles, magazines, reference books, recipe books…. etc. Inspired by reading challenges on blogs I read, I’m spending more time each day reading or re- reading books, particularly classics along with more recent books. Please leave a comment or email me privately, if you have a suggestion for a book or magazine I might enjoy.

Books Suggestions – these have been recommended, I’m listing them here to keep track of them. – If you have one that you think I should read… please let me know.
- The Divine Conspiracy – Dallas Willard
- Peace Like A River -
- Big Cherry Holler – Adriana Trigiani
- How, Then, Shall We Live? – Wayne Muller
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Recent books and other pieces I’ve read recently and that I might recommend to others.
This list is in no way complete. I read a lot. I’ll add to the list as a book comes to mind. I won’t bother to list those I found uninteresting. Many of the books I’ve read were recommended by friends and family or were part of a writing group assignment. A plus sign (+ ) means I’ve read it more than once or plan to. An exclamation (!) means I enjoyed it enough to recommended it. In some cases I’ll add a comment. If you have a book, magazine or anything else you’ve enjoyed, I’d like to hear about it.
*******************************************************************************
! The Sunflower – Richard Paul Evans – Fiction – As with the other books I’ve read by this author, the story is part romance, part adventure, part lesson in humanity… a good read..
! The locket – Richard Paul Evans
! Grace – Richard Paul Evans
! The Story of Edgar Sawtelle -
! Big Stone Gap – Adriana Trigiana – an enjoyable read, sentimental, sad, funny.
!+ Sabbath – Wayne Muller – Restoring The Sacred Rhythm of Rest – I really enjoyed this book. It was recommended by a friend, I put a hold on it at the local library and after reading it, I plan to buy a copy for my personal library and a couple of extras for gifting. Having grown up with family members that observed the Sabbath, I know well the need for time to rest, comtemplate, pray, recharge. This boom reminded me of how important it is to take time for resting. A must read for anyone.
The Lessons Of St. Francis – John Michael Talbot & Steve Rabey -how to bring simplicity and spirituality into your daily life.
Wish You Well – David Baldacci
! Love Walked In – Marisa De Los Santos – fiction – a love story of a different kind.

Simplicity, The Freedome of Letting Go – Richard Rohr
A New Earth – Eckhart Tolle
The Red Scarf – fiction
!The Pillars Of The Earth - Ken Follet – fiction

The Namesake -
! La Sombra Del Viento - Carlos Ruiz Zafon – Fiction – Spanish – I enjoyed reading the original version of this book! It’s been ages since I’ve read an entire book in Spanish, I need to do this more often.
Delores Claiborne - Stephen King – Fiction – reading assignment book
The Bean Trees - Barbara Kinsolver – Fiction
! Aging With Grace - David Snowdown - nonfiction – Also known as the Nun Study. None of us are getting younger and many are having to care for someone with Alzheimer’s disease. This books discusses some of these issues and give an insight on how to age gracefully.
Eat Pray Love - Elizabeth Gilbert – nonfiction
Life of Pi - Yann Martel – Fiction
The Thirteenth Tale – Diane Setterfield- Fiction
! The Poisonwood Bible – Barbara Kingsolver - Liked the story very much. Personally, I would probably have done bodily harm to the husband in this story. *G*
Skipping Christmas - John Grisham – Fiction
! A light in the Window - jan Karon – Christian Fiction - Christian fiction – Medford Series
+ ! City Of Lights – Lauren Belfer – fiction – a note here. I am familiar with many of the places where this story takes place, so while I found it very interesting, I don’t know that it would be the same for others.
+ ! On Writing – Stephen King – nonfiction – (2006) while I don’t particularly care for most of what he’s written about in the past, I really enjoyed this book.
+ ! Shadow Of The Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafon - nonfiction - One of my favorites.
+ The Language of Flowers - lovely little old book a gardener would appreciate, originally printed in 1913, this is a 1968 reprint.

Sis, I want to read it in Spanish also. It is one of my favorite books too. I’m adding it to the list.

I just loved Stephen King’s On Writing and I have only read one other of his books (Dolores Claiborne, which I also loved). On Writing was my favorite book of last year.
You must, if you haven’t, read Peace Like a River. It is about healing, miracles, and prodigals. It is about faith and wrestling with God and redemption. You would like it. : )

Denise,
I will look for Dolores Claiborne and Peace like a River, next time I head to the library. I haven’t read either and having a list with me when I go will keep me from browsing too much and coming home with armloads of books. Thanks for the suggestions!
